How to make a Bábóg Project doll

In November 2020 we closed the crafting part of The Bábóg Project. By this time we had gathered a staggering 12,000 dolls. Between June and September 2025 would found homes for all 12,000 of these little dolls by asking people to participate in the project again by taking one or many of them into their hands and hearts.

However, although this bringing in and sending out of dolls part of The Bábóg Project has finished and we are no longer either accepting dolls nor offering them, we do still believe in the value of the process of this project.

If you have only just heard of this work, and your heart leaped with wanting to join in, I still urge you to do so. There is still such value in taking the time to create something in the name of someone we never met, whose story we never knew, but about whose life and death we care deeply. We are human beings with human feelings and allowing ourselves to take the time to feel and express our feelings is so vital. It is vital for our own selves and it is vital for the ways in which we show up as a member of community.

We are sharing with you here the patterns that were created for and used by people to make dolls for The Bábóg Project. Of course you can make your dolls in any way. What is important is the act of doing. I would suggest that you make a doll. Take time to do so, with little distraction around you so that you can feel your feelings and hear your thoughts. Even better is to do this in community with others. Allow there be to be conversation, sharing, silences. Once you have made your dolls, sit with them for a while. Let them be where you can see and feel them. Notice what comes up for you and wait until you know the next step. Where will the doll go? Will you gift it to someone? Do you know who? Will you keep it yourself? In a special place?

Of course we would love to hear from you and see the dolls you have made and what you did with them. Please do contact us via email thebabogproject@gmail.com, our contact form, or our Facebook page.
